Today we're going to await more closely at the parts of a lesson and give sample activities to go you started.

Let's dive in!

Earlier Reading Activities

• As the teacher, y'all'll choose an appropriate text for the group. Make sure information technology's at a slightly higher level than what they tin read on their own. They should need your help. This isguided reading, after all.

• In advance, set up a teaching point, discussion questions, and (if desired) an extension such as word piece of work or guided writing.

• Before the students begin reading, introduce the text. You lot might innovate new concepts or vocabulary words, give a brief synopsis of the volume, call attention to a new phonics design, have your learners do a picture walk or make predictions, and/or set a purpose for reading.

During Reading Activities

• After you innovate the text, students will read it in its entirety – on their own. No circular robin reading, delight! If you're concerned well-nigh noise, you might want to invest in some whisper phones.

• As the students read, you're going to be listening in and taking notes. This is your adventure to actuallyobserve your readers. What phonics skills practice they know/ not know? What strategies equally they using equally they read? How is their fluency?

Prompts to back up students every bit they read

• Find the part that's not quite correct.
• What other word do you know similar that?
• Encompass the start/ending. Now what word practice y'all run across? Put the parts together.
• Bear witness me the function that's confusing.
• Tell me about what you read in just one judgement.
• This word has more than one meaning. What practise you call back it means here?
• Brand your phonation evidence that this is interesting.
• Notice the punctuation when y'all read.

After Reading Activities

Later the students finish reading, engage them in a discussion about the volume. Be sure to refer to those high and depression level questions you lot prepared ahead of time. Hither are some sample questions to get you started (get more in the gratuitous download).

Sample discussion questions

• Who do you retrieve is the most important grapheme? Why?
• Give 1 discussion that describes the main character. Why did yous choose information technology?
• What clues in the pictures show you how the character is feeling?
• Indicate to a clue in the motion-picture show that shows where the story takes identify.
• Proper name the events of the story in order.
• What is 1 fact you learned from this text?
• What do you lot think is the virtually important thing the author wanted you lot to know about ____?
